Air Cylinder Problems?

January 26, 2009

On the website www.about-air-compressors.com, there’s lots of information about all kinds of air actuators, including much information about what causes problems with them. You can reach that compressed air information site here.

The article linked below provides similar information, plus some new stuff about air cylinders that’s worth reading.

Why Air Cylinders Fail.

About 4 amps per 1/3 HP

January 12, 2009

About 4 amps per 1/3 HP is what’s needed from household current to run your home compressor.

Of course, if it’s a 15 amp circuit, then you really are limited to about 1.1 HP of motor if you don’t want to pop the breaker or burn the fuse when your compressor kicks in.

Running Scared in 2009

January 8, 2009

Granted, there’s huge turmoil in the world, and granted, there are some self-centered quasi-reiligious folks who feel compelled to force you to “love” their God at the point of a gun…but by and large, I believe that we’re chasing a recession in North America because the media tells us we should.

Turn it around. If you’re looking at being “downsized” it’s an opportunity to move into an area where you might not have gone if the “same old, same old” had continued.

Chase a new dream. Start a small business. Perform random acts of kindness. Keep yourself positively motivated, and great things will happen, regardless of what the media says.

Thanks to you I’m able to earn a bit of a living from the web. I publish this blog which doesn’t generate any revenue, and I also publish www.about-air-compressors.com, a website dedicated to making using compressed air simpler for all of us DIY’s. That one generates some revenue.

SHAMELESS PLUG / 73% in North America search the web first for information and to purchase goods.

I was also motivated by or personal economy to embark on a website building career a few years ago. Although “bricks and mortar” stores won’t disappear, I believe that more and more commerce will be web related.

If you run a business and aren’t on the net, you’re not catering to the 73% of people that look there first.

I build basic custom websites for $590, all inclusive (hosting and registration). If you read this, and need a website for your business, contact me through www.solid-gold-websites.com, and I’ll build yours for $490, a significant saving for you, and my contribution towards helping our economy a bit. This is only good until end of January 2009.

Cheers,

Bill

Off peak power to supply “on-peak” compressed air?

January 5, 2009

It’s no secret that the vast majority of electricity is consumed during “waking hours” when everybody is up and plants are running at full bore.

Electricity (mostly) cannot be stored, so when the demand is high, so is the cost. Yet all of that electricity generating equipment is capable of, and does, run 24/7/365.

Why not use off-peak electricity (maybe lower rates?) to compress air for use when the demand for it is high?

Interesting article about that right here.
