Need your air cylinder to cycle faster?

August 29, 2007

The distance from the air cylinder to it’s power valve affect the cylinder speed. Not only does the power air have to travel the distance from the valve to the cylinder, the exhaust air has to do the same, in reverse.

Consider a quick exhaust, installed in the cylinder port(s), to speed up cylinder cycle time.

New Compressed Air Plumbing Solution

August 29, 2007

Over the years the standard for plumbing compressed air has been black pipe. Yup, the black pipe creates all sorts of problems for the quality of the air, but it has been cheap, and it can certainly handle the air pressure for all but the highest outputs.

I’ve been a proponent of copper pipe for the DIY crowd, and I’d recommend it for institutional use as well, save for the cost.

One company has developed a line of plastic compressed air plumbing products, but it’s not recognized as suitable in many jurisdictions, and I, with a bit of background in plastics as well as compressed air, would want to be really convinced before I’d plumb compressed air through rigid plastic pipe.

Now there’s another alternative. It probably is a premium priced product, yet overall, with the ease of installation, maybe the installed cost is competitive? I’m talking about aluminum compressed air pipe, and you can read more about it here.

This is neat stuff!

The software I use to help me build my website has just been upgraded to enable us to put pages on the site to which visitors can add comments, postings, lists, etc.

In my quest to provide an information site for compressed air users, I’ve now set up pages where visitors can post their own notices for, say, looking for and offering fluid power positions, promote their own expertise in working with fluid power, and even a page that allows manufacturers to list their products, and product searchers to post a request for information if they cannot find a compressed equipment that they are looking for.

So who’s not concerned about energy?

August 20, 2007

In the northern hemisphere we are heading into the winter season with the high energy costs associated with heating. Those same higher costs will affect your energy use for your plant or shop.

If you are interested in information about dealing with energy, may I suggest you visit this blog:  Energy Boomer, which provides great information and links to resources.

Of course, information relating to compressed air costs and use can be found here.

More on regulators

August 16, 2007

When you are using compressed air, whether in your home DIY shop or on the job in an industrial application, use the compressed air regulator to ‘dial down’ the air pressure to your device to the lowest pressure setting where it will work acceptably. This will save an enormous amount of energy and money.
The concept that compressed air is cheap is wrong. It’s one of the most expensive forms of energy, as the generating of compressed air is accomplished by converting and consuming another form of energy first.

A lot more information is available about compressed air regulators on my About-Air-Compressors web site.
